“Since 2007, the Krasnoyarsk Region Administrative Council and USAID have been working in partnership to implement a project titled 'Extramural educational programs on the prevention of HIV/AIDS, using peer-to-peer methods, developed by the Health and Development Foundation (formerly ‘Healthy Russia’).
This project is particularly interesting and corresponds to international principles on the organization of collaboration for education on the regional level aimed at limiting the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The project uses and develops the available models of collaboration between relevant government bodies and non-governmental organizations, and introduces three key principles for the organization of work in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Cooperation with the Health and Development Foundation (formerly “Healthy Russia”) and the unification of financial resources had a significant influence on the successful implementation of the project in the region.
The informational and methodological resources and the educational film provided by the foundation for the peer-to-peer program were key materials in the organization of preventive efforts in the educational system.”
The Russian Federation Ministry of Sport, Tourism, and Youth Policy sent an official letter to the directors of government bodies in charge of youth policy and affairs in Russian regions on the implementation of programs aimed at maintaining and strengthening the health of the younger generation. The city administration of Nevinnomyssk supported the efforts of the foundation, and decided to create an inter-agency targeted program called “Healthy Citizens of Nevinnomyssk”. From the letter: “The administration of the Sakhalin Region would like to express its gratitude to the director of the Health and Development Foundation, Elena Viktorovna Dmitrieva, and her colleagues for their work in organizing the effective collaboration between the Sakhalin Region Department of Education and the Health and Development Foundation (Healthy Russia) with the aim of supporting positive changes in the health of young people.
It is particularly important for us that the Health and Development Foundation (Healthy Russia), understanding the importance of cooperation and partnerships in efforts to improve the health of the population, and young people in particular, strives to unify the efforts of different parties and different segments of society who are engaged in trying to build healthy lifestyle skills among young people.
The “Everything that concerns you” program has received very positive feedback from young participants and from educators as well. L.F. Shubina, the vice-governor of the Sakhalin Region, praised the quality of methodological materials for trainers and volunteers. She was speaking at a meeting of the regional committee on youth affairs and the protection of the rights of minors on 03.07.2007, where information from the Sakhalin Region department of education on the implementation of projects in regional educational establishments by the Health and Development Foundation (Healthy Russia) was presented.
The importance of the preventive efforts carried out in the project became clear thanks to the well-developed materials, the film “Something to Talk About”, and the preparedness of the majority of trainers.
We consider the wide range of territory this project covered to be one of its most successful aspects; preventive efforts and events extend beyond the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which enables the inclusion of young people from villages and distant cities.”
From the letter: “The Sakhalin Region Department of Education would like to express its gratitude for the effective dissemination of the “Peer-to-Peer” and “Everything that concerns you” youth programs, developed by the Health and Development Foundation (Healthy Russia), and which are focused on forming healthy lifestyle skills among adolescents and young people. The implementation of these joint projects helped many children in the region with difficult living situations to master effective communication skills, feel the need for self-realization, learn to deal with stress, and to resolve conflict situations.”
